Ikorodu Division Peace Initiative (IDPIL/GTE) recently commemorated its second anniversary, highlighting the significant progress made towards fostering peace and unity in Ikorodu division since its inception.

Aimed at creating a safe and harmonious environment for residents of Ikorodu division in Nigeria, IDPIL/GTE marked its second year of establishment at the palace of HRM, Oba Adeoriyomi Abdul-Akeem Oyebo, the Obateru of Egbin Kingdom.

During the anniversary celebration dated the 15th of August 2023, the Peace Initiative recognized and expressed gratitude to the various stakeholders who have played a vital role in supporting their mission.

Ingrained in the welcome address by Otunba Ayodele Elesho, the outfit extolled individuals and organizations who contributed their time, resources, and expertise to promote peace and security in the region.

In addition, Otunba Elesho acknowledged the outstanding efforts of the security officials who have worked tirelessly to maintain law and order in Ikorodu.

“Their dedication and commitment to ensuring the safety of the community have been instrumental in the success of the peace-building efforts” Otunba Elesho added.

The event served as a platform to reflect on the achievements of the past two years and to discuss plans for further sustainability of peace in Ikorodu division.

According to Otunba Ganiyu Olusegun Abiru (Executive Secretary of IDPIL), the event also provided an opportunity for community members to come together and strengthen their resolve to promote harmony and understanding.

In summary, the Ikorodu Division Peace Initiative’s second-anniversary celebration portrayed a testament to the power of collaboration and the collective efforts of individuals and organizations working towards a common goal.

In his address, Odofin Adewunmi Ogunsanya, the Chairman of the Ikorodu Division Peace Initiative (IDPIL/GTE), highlighted the remarkable achievements of the organization and emphasized the importance of continued collaboration and cooperation from the residents of the Ikorodu division in Nigeria.

According to Odofin Ogunsanya, his leadership (over the peace initiative) has made significant strides in fostering peace, unity, and security in the community.

He continued, “Through various initiatives and programs, we have successfully brought together different stakeholders to work towards a common goal of creating a peaceful environment for all”.

“We’re grateful to the residents of the Ikorodu division for their support and active participation in the peace-building efforts”.

“We also acknowledged the positive impact that the collective efforts of the community have had in achieving the organisation’s goals thus far”.

However, Ogunsanya called for increased collaboration and cooperation from the residents, emphasizing that sustaining peace requires continuous engagement and commitment from everyone.

He urged individuals and organizations to come forward with ideas, resources, and support to further strengthen the peace initiative.

Ogunsanya stressed the importance of unity and solidarity among the residents, highlighting that a united front is essential in addressing the challenges and promoting lasting peace in Ikorodu division.

“As we continue on the path to foster growth, development and peace, this initiative hopes to inspire other communities to prioritize peace and unity” Ogunsanya added.

Former minister of works, Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe, chairman of the occasion, in his goodwill message, commended the overtime efforts and contribution of the Chairman of the Ikorodu Division Peace Initiative, Odofin Adewunmi Ogunsanya, and called for continued collaboration and cooperation from residents in Ikorodu division.

He encouraged community members to embrace dialogue, understanding, and empathy as they work towards a harmonious future.

“What I can say about this initiative is that it serves as a reminder of the communal obligation to build a peaceful and prosperous community.

“By working together, the residents of the Ikorodu division can create a brighter future for all” Senator Ogunlewe asserted.

The high point of the event was the presentation of awards to esteemed personalities across the division which started with the recognition of Royal fathers.

Senator Adetokunbo Abiru, representing the Lagos East Senatorial district (and chairman, Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance & other financial institutions) was honored as well with an award.

Other awardees according to the headliners include; High Chief Aliu Musediku (the Regent of Ijede) {for pillar of peace and security}, ACP Bode Fakeye (for special peace and security partners’), Chief Lanre Labinjo (IDPIL-LTJF Commandant) {for outstanding gallantry), Mr Salami Awolaru T.H, among other recipients.

Oriwu Club Ikorodu, The Exclusives Club, Heritage Bank, Zenith Bank, FCMB, Yinka Folawiyo Group, DSTV and GOTV got the corporate sponsorship awards.

Special guests in attendance include; HRM, Oba Semiudeen Orimadegun Kasali, Adeboruwa of Igbogbo, HRM, Oba Adeoriyomi Abdul-Akeem Oyebo, Obateru Of Egbin, HRM, Oba David Raji Balogun, Eweye of Isiu, HRM, Oba Bashiru Aremu Shotonwa, Sekumade of Ipakodo etc.
